Rakhmad is a Canadian lawyer based in Toronto with extensive experience in the aviation industry. He has worked for a leading international law firm Bird&Bird in London, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft in Canada and a national carrier in Uzbekistan, and has a good grasp of the manufacturer and airline sides of the aviation business.

 

He has a strong passion for the industry and is experienced in aircraft leasing, sale, financing and repossession transactions involving various difficult jurisdictions around the world.

Rakhmad has completed his legal education in both civil law and common law jurisdictions and gained rich exposure to international law, intellectual property law, commercial litigation and international relations. He holds a J.D. degree from the University of Ottawa law school, an M.A. degree from the OSCE Academy, an LL.M. degree from Central European University and an LL.B. degree from the University of World Economy & Diplomacy.

 

Rakhmad has lived, studied and worked in different cities in Central Asia, Europe and North America, where he experienced different business cultures.

Rakhmad was called to the Ontario bar in Canada in 2012 after completing his training at a litigation firm in Toronto specializing in transportation law matters. He is also qualified to practice law in Uzbekistan as a solicitor.

He is fluent in Uzbek, Turkish, Russian and Tajik and is conversant in French and Farsi.

His recent experiences include:

• A leading aircraft manufacturer: advising on settlement arrangements between an aircraft manufacturer and a Russian operator;

• An aviation client: advice regarding the sale of multiple used aircraft operated in African jurisdictions to an airline based in Canada;

• Lease of regional jets to European and Southeast Asian operators;

• An international leasing company: assisting with financing arrangements for a portfolio of new aircraft;

• An aircraft parts manufacturer: advice on aircraft parts consignment and sale structure between the client and an asset management corporation in the US; and

• An international airline: advice on the acquisition of new Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
